Gotham: Villains Rise In First Promos For Season 2
By Steve Lam
In a little less than two months, Gotham will be coming back for its sophomore season. And it seems that viewers hoping the series would take a step back and not throw famous villain names and references around may not get their wish. This is because the first promos for the new season are already hinting at featuring even more of Batman’s future rogues gallery.
The first promo uses a modern rendition of Duran Duran’s Hungry Like The Wolf for background music and shows various shots and short scenes of the baddies James Gordon will be facing up against. It then ends with the supposed title of Season 2: Gotham: Rise of the Villains.
The second promo prominently features Bruce Wayne discovering the batcave — something we left off with at the conclusion of Season 1. It also ends with the title Gotham: Rise of the Villains.
Frequent readers of Bam Smack Pow know how I feel about Gotham going overboard in not building its own mythology and constantly relying on already famous characters. From these first glimpses, Season 2 may not be that much of an improvement over Season 1. The writers may have felt that the void left by Fish Mooney had to be filled somehow. Let’s just hope that they can at least focus the story and not have too many underdeveloped plot lines going on at the same time. However, with that many villains, we may just end up with another lackluster season.
Season 2 of Fox’s Gotham will premiere on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 8PM EST.
