Via DC Entertainment’s DC All Access trailer breakdown for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we have official confirmation that Tao Okamoto’s character is indeed Mercy Graves.  For months, it was only speculated that the actress was playing Lex Luthor’s closest confidant and bodyguard.  However, with DC’s newest video, this casting is no longer hypothetical.  The revelation comes at 2:21 in the video.

Created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, the character of Mercedes “Mercy” Graves III made her first appearance in 1996 in Superman: The Animated Series.  In the show, Mercy Graves is the personal assistant and bodyguard of Lex Luthor.  Originally created solely for television, the character soon became popular and crossed over into comics.  Traditionally, it’s been the other way around, with comics being the source material.

In other animated television shows, Mercy Graves made appearances in The Batman and Young Justice.  In the realm of animated feature films, the character appeared in Superman: Brainiac Attacks (2006) and Superman Doomsday (2007).  In live-action, the character was to appear in the canceled Superman Lives movie.  Later, in the television series Smallville, a character based on an amalgam of Mercy Graves and Eve Teschmacher, from the Christopher Reeve Superman franchise, named Tess Mercer was introduced.
