Conan O’Brien Gets Cozy With Deadpool
By Steve Lam
With only a few hours to go before the red-band trailer for Deadpool debuts, Conan O’Brien does a final push marketing push for the Merc with a Mouth. In O’Brien’s usual brand of self-mocking humor, the talk show host tweeted out a photo of him and Deadpool — supposedly Ryan Reynolds in the costume — in a tender embrace.
Before this message, O’Brien and Reynolds had a small, humorous exchange on Twitter which also included a custom Conan/Deadpool logo.
As reported earlier, the red-band trailer will debut first on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 on TBS when Ryan Reynolds also appears on Conan. The green-band trailer will debut with the release of Fantastic Four which is Friday, August 7, 2015.
The character of Wade Wilson was first introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) before his disfigurement. For a couple of years, fans had been lobbying for a Deadpool solo film. The news of Ryan Reynolds reprising his role was welcomed. The film wrapped up filming in May and is well into the post-production process.
At Comic-Con 2015, Fox’s Hall H presentation and panel for Deadpool absolutely killed it (pun intended). The trailer — something the studio still considered rough and not ready for public consumption — was soon leaked online. The response to seeing the Merc with a Mouth in action was overwhelmingly positive. Ryan Reynolds soon took to Twitter to tell fans that the trailer will be officially released soon — after they do some polishing up.
Deadpool will be released on February 12, 2016. The film will be directed by Blur Films visual effects veteran Tim Miller, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg. The cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Ed Skrein as Ridge, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, aka Vanessa Carlysle, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
