Supergirl: Red Tornado To Appear
By Steve Lam
Via ComicBook.com, we have confirmation that Iddo Goldberg has been cast in the villainous role of Dr. T.O. Morrow — the inventor of Justice League hero Red Tornado — in CBS’s Supergirl. Warner Bros. Television gives this description for the character:
"Red Tornado is the most advanced android the world has ever seen. Designed by scientist T.O. Morrow for the U.S. Army as the ultimate superweapon, he soon becomes sentient, posing a grave danger to National City — including the people Supergirl cares about most."
Another thing to note is that Goldberg will be playing not only T.O. Morrow, but Red Tornado himself. It’s unknown if the actor will just be providing his voice to a pure CGI character, using motion capture, or will be decked out in full costume.
Iddo Goldberg is a British-Israeli actor who’s made numerous appearances in television and film. His most notable film appearance was in Defiance (2008) starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber. He’s also noted for appearing in the hit shows Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Peaky Blinders.
Created by writer John Broome and artist Carmine Infantino, T.O. Morrow — whose full name was Thomas Oscar Morrow — made his first appearance in The Flash Vol. 1 #143 (March 1964). The Post-Crisis version of the character — named Tomek Ovadya Morah — made his first appearance in The Flash Vol. 2 #19 (December 1988).
Both versions of the character created Red Tornado and other likewise elemental androids — Red Inferno, Red Torpedo, Red Volcano, and the Tomorrow Woman androids. Though Morrow was evil, Red Tornado would soon become sentient and choose to become a hero, later joining the Justice League.
CBS’s Supergirl is set to premiere on October 26, 2015. The series was developed by Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, and Andrew Kreisberg, and will star Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El / Kara Danvers / Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers. Laura Benanti will having a recurring role as Alural Zore-El. Guest stars will include Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Helen Slater as Eliza Danvers, Dean Cain as Jeremiah Danvers, Faran Tahir as The Commander, and Owan Yeoman as Vartox.
