A Labor Day Tribute: 10 Cool Jobs Held By Super Heroes
By Nick Tylwalk
Firefighter
Job held by: Ashley Quinn (Ash)
Threw you a curveball here, didn’t I? While our list includes a bunch of notable Marvel and DC heroes, Ash is one that many comic book fans may not have heard of since he featured in a handful of comics in the 1990s. The brainchild of Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, he did manage to have crossovers with Cyber Force and Azrael but otherwise made just 11 appearances on his own.
No matter. This was a winner of a concept right from the start. Ashley Quinn was a New York City firefighter who ended up gaining super powers after his only hope while stuck inside a burning building was a regeneration chamber sent back in time from the future. His resulting flame-based abilities were nothing too unique, but the idea of a first responder turned super hero definitely was noteworthy and popular.
Ash is the best example of a common theme throughout this list, which is that super heroes usually find a way to make a difference even when they are in their secret identities. It’s hard to think of many more direct methods than saving lives during fires, which is why Ash has a spot here even if he burned out way too soon.
