The Flash: New Season 2 Premiere Photos Show Firestorm, Atom-Smasher And Harrison Wells

The Season 2 premiere of The Flash is still a few weeks away, meaning it’s just close enough to start getting excited about right now. To aid in that feeling, The CW released a whole bunch of photos from “The Man Who Saved Central City,” and there were quite a few things that caught my eye.

For starters, it looks like Central City really will be throwing the Fastest Man Alive a celebration of some kind, which is probably the least he can do since he saved the day by plunging headfirst into danger at the end of Season 1. Could a Flash Museum be far behind?

Captain Cold and Heat Wave will also make their presence felt, but a few other characters among the pics stood out even more.

Welcome Back Harrison Wells … If That’s Really You

Harrison Wells is a hard guy to kill. During flashbacks in Season 1, we saw the original Wells killed by Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, who assumed his appearance and identity. Then we saw the Thawne-Wells erased from reality due to the heroic sacrifice of Eddie Thawne, his distant ancestor. So the fact that Tom Cavanagh is still on the show has to rank as one of the most unlikely TV upsets of all time.

Whether Wells is around because the timeline was changed or he’s a counterpart from an alternate Earth, he won’t be exactly the same man the gang at S.T.A.R. Labs knew, which could be both good and bad. It should be fun seeing how having him around affects the whole team.

Smashing Atoms on the Edge

If you’re a wrestling fan like I am, you know that Edge’s WWE career was cut short due to injury. It’s great to see him working in TV (under his real name, Adam Copeland), even if his face is hidden behind a mask as Atom-Smasher.

Another thing to watch: in the comics, Atom-Smasher does a few misguided things, but he’s a hero more often than he’s a villain. That will make it disappointing if he’s a straight up bad guy, so here’s hoping for some nuance in his motivation for going up against the Flash.

Happiness for Firestorm, at Least for Now

At some point, Professor Martin Stein is departing to be a part of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Teasers for that show have shown Firestorm in action, but Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond has not been announced as a cast member.

Naturally, many fans assume something bad will happen to Ronnie, which seems cruel to Caitlin Snow (or is it Caitlin Raymond now?) considering how often she’s already had her heart yo-yo back and forth between having her love and losing him. Keep an eye for any foreshadowing in regard to the fate of Firestorm.

Can’t wait, right? Fortunately, we won’t have to for that much longer. Season 2 of The Flash begins on Tuesday, October 6 at 8 pm on The Cw.
