Gotham Will Have Only One Break This Season

Gotham had a winter hiatus like most network shows. But then it also had several significant breaks after that in the second half of its season. Gotham star Ben McKenzie, who plays James Gordon identified these frequent breaks as one of the biggest problems in the first season. That will pretty much be rectified in season two.

The second season of Gotham will only have one significant break. The season will essentially be two sets of eleven episodes. The number of episodes last season was also something seen as a problem, there were 26 episodes, some ordered mid-season, which really seemed to add a lot of filler (Fish on an island, anyone?). This doesn’t necessarily mean 11 straight weeks episodes, there may be an occasional week off here and there. But only one big significant break.

While I don’t think the breaks were a problem, the number of episodes in the first season of Gotham, especially more being added mid-season, were a problem. A slightly shorter episode order might help a lot. We’ll see for sure when Gotham returns this Monday, September 21st on Fox!
