Batman V Superman: Jesse Eisenberg Will Be Lex Luthor Jr.

Warner Bros. has launched its Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice viral campaign via an article in Fortune magazine, and it’s revealing a lot of backstory for the villain — Lex Luthor … or, more accurately, Lex Luthor Jr.

In an in-movie Fortune magazine interview, Lex Luthor recollects on his father and how he transformed Luthor Sr.’s company:

"Well, Dad was a complicated guy … He came from a country where the government, in the guise of protector, had absolute control over the citizens. That drove him. I get it. Heck, I’d hate to see that sort of thing happen over here."

The full article goes on to give a brief backstory as to how Lex became an even greater success than his father.  It definitely doesn’t give away too much, but, in fact, makes us ask even more questions.  What did Luthor, Sr. die of?  Did Bruce Wayne have a corporate rivalry with the elder Luthor?  Is Luthor, Jr. an illegitimate child?

For fans who thought Jesse Eisenberg was a bit too young and boyish to be playing the Man of Steel’s arch-nemesis, this information might be a bit of fresh air.  However, fans may also be questioning why Superman’s main villain won’t be Lex Luthor-proper.  My best guess is that Zack Snyder and company may be setting up a slow burn where Luthor, Sr. makes his ultimate appearance in a later film, and his supposed death and son’s rise to power were all part of his master plan.
