Batman V Superman: Most Expensive Film Ever Made?
By Steve Lam
According to Latino Review, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice might become the most expensive movie ever made. A few months ago, that title was about to be bestowed upon the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe two-parter Avengers: Infinity War which had a combined budget of $1 billion. Yeah, you read that correctly — billion!
Here, we’re just talking about the one movie — pitting the Man of Steel against the Dark Knight — with a current burn of $410 million, already besting the budget of one of the Avengers: Infinity War films. And it seems to still be going up, up, and away. The site is speculating that the huge budget may have been due to the addition of big-name stars, an extended production schedule, and the building of practical sets.

The current title holder, according to Forbes, is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), which ended up with a final budget of $410.6 million. Hey, if Warner Bros. is going to go big on anything, it should be on two of the most iconic superheroes in the world. However, it doesn’t mean that Zack Snyder and company will have carte blanche on the overall DC Extended Universe. Latino Review’s sources are stating that the two-parter Justice League will only have a combined budget of $500 million. Yeah, that budget now sounds totally reasonable. It reminds of that Western Union scene from Coming to America (1988):
Currently, Justice League has a 16-month production schedule in London which includes both pre-production and the actual production. My guess is that Justice League could have a much smaller budget due to the reusability of what has already been built in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
