Gotham Preview/Synopsis – S02E09 – “Rise Of The Villains: A Bitter Pill To Swallow”

On last week’s “Tonight’s the Night” episode of Fox’s Gotham, we saw Barbara Kean go full-on crazy. Baiting Jim to a church, Barbara wanted her ultimate vengeance by holding a mock wedding while killing her former love. Later, she went on to sweeten the deal by wheeling in a kidnapped Leslie. Her plans soon fell apart when Harvey figures out where she took his partner.

As the GCPD closed in, Jim and Barbara fought in the church’s attic. Going through one of the windows, Barbara was prevented from falling to the ground by Jim holding onto her hand. But Barbara wanted to go out big and attempted suicide. That’s right … attempted. After the commercial break, we found out that she landed on a bush and was left in critical condition. Gotham, you’re such a cop-out.

Barbara’s actions also served as double-duty to distract Jim from Theo taking Wayne Enterprises from Bruce. At the end, Jim was able to go after Theo with the discovery of a crucial witness — the kidnapped Mayor James. But the arrest is not really a success for Bruce, as Theo will now not disclose his knowledge of who killed the Waynes.

With all the commotion going on in the city, Nygma had a private affair to attend to — the burying of Kristen’s remains in the woods. The trip into the forest wasn’t without some drama though. Nygma also had to kill a random hunter who stumbled on his makeshift funeral service. However, the real meat was at the end when Nygma found a wounded Penguin hiding out in a trailer.

This week, we’ll see the aftermath of “Tonight’s the Night.” Will Bruce be able to find out who murdered his parents? Is Nygma’s meeting Penguin a match made in heaven? Here’s the official synopsis for “Rise of the Villains: A Bitter Pill to Swallow”:

"Gordon and Barnes continue cleaning up Gotham, and Gordon comes face-to-face with one of the city’s most dangerous hitmen, Eduardo Flamingo (guest star Raul Castillo). Meanwhile, Nygma and Penguin cross paths again, and Bruce pressures Galavan into handing over the name of his parents’ murderer in the all new “Rise of the Villains: A Bitter Pill to Swallow” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Nov. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
