Rumor: Constantine May Join Legends Of Tomorrow In 2017

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine may be joining The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow during its second season run.  The source of the rumor is also stating that Legends of Tomorrow may follow the same model as the animated Justice League Unlimited — where a radically different cast and mission will be switched out season to season.

Matt Ryan’s joining of Legends of Tomorrow could be a response to his most recent appearance on The CW’s Arrow.  Ever since the cancellation of NBC’s Constantine, fans have been rallying for more of the conman mage.  In early November, fans got their wish when Ryan guest starred on Arrow which solidified a connection with Constantine‘s universe.

In the same report, there are also rumors that Steven R. McQueen of Vampire Diaries fame may also be joining Legends of Tomorrow in an unknown role.  Avid fans who have been following this piece of news may make the immediate assumption that he’ll be playing Dick Grayson / Nightwing.  Last year, the internet went wild on rumors of McQueen starring in TNT’s upcoming Titans — a series based on DC’s famed Teen Titans — as Batman’s former sidekick.

Could the rumor of McQueen be much bigger news in the world of shared universes?  Here’s some food for thought (not that you didn’t get enough food for Thanksgiving): What if Steven R. McQueen will be playing Nightwing on Titans, but also appear as Nightwing on Legends of Tomorrow so that Titans will also be connected to the universe which started with Arrow?  If this does happen in addition to the earlier reports of the characters from The CW’s The Flash appearing on Supergirl, then DC is truly creating a television universe that spans multiple networks.  My head is spinning right now, and in a good way!  Think of the possibilities.

Only time will tell if these rumors are a pure fabrication of tryptophan-induced hallucinations from too much turkey.  Or if they turn out to be true, they will collectively be the most epic early Christmas present from DC/WB.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Official Synopsis: When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the newest installment in DC’s shared television universe.  The series is being developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim, and will star Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein / Firestorm, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer / The Atom, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance / White Canary, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Ciara Renée as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory / Heat Wave, and Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart / Captain Cold.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on The CW on Thursday, January 21, 2015 at 8:00PM EST.
