12 Best Superhero Movie Trailers Of All Time
By Nick Tylwalk
6. Watchmen
Say what you want about Zack Snyder, the director (and we’ve done that plenty of times on this very site), but there’s no doubt the man can concoct one hell of a trailer. One of the big fears when it was first announced that Watchmen was a thing was that it might diverge too much from the source material, called by many the greatest superhero comic book story of all time.
Watching this, those concerns weren’t just erased, they were obliterated. Beginning with the murder of the Comedian that sets the events of the comic series in motion, what we get is two-plus minutes of images fans know by heart. There’s absolutely no way you got to the end of this and thought anything other than, “Holy crap, they actually did it.”
It’s edited with such style and panache that even non-fans had to be curious. Whatever Watchmen was, it wasn’t going to be your typical capes and tights fare, and it offered the promise of something meatier and more intellectually stimulating than your run of the mill summer blockbuster.
Whether the full movie fulfilled its potential has been and will continue to be the subject of wild debate. In other words, even though I didn’t love everything about the film, I sure loved nearly every part of this trailer. Maybe my favorite Zack Snyder work, all things considered.
