Kevin Conroy Publishes Complete “Am I Blue?” Performance
Kevin Conroy has published the full version of his rendition of “Am I Blue?” from Justice League Unlimited!
Five years before the (in)famous Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode “Mayhem of the Music Meister!”, Kevin Conroy’s Batman paved the way for a Dark Knight musical performance. While the “Mayhem of the Music Meister!” episode is more intolerable to watch than Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin film, Batman’s rendition of the classic song “Am I Blue?” in the Justice League Unlimited episode “This Little Piggy” in 2004 is one for the ages. Today, Kevin Conroy finally published his full performance of the song on his website, so you can enjoy more than the minute-or-so that was featured in the episode.
Batman’s performance of the song is one of the most memorable Batman moments in Justice League Unlimited, because the situation that prompts Batman to sing works It’s part of a deal he is forced to make with Circe to restore Wonder Woman back from being a pig. And the song fit with the theme of the episode. The romantic feelings between Wonder Woman and Batman are explored in this one, but of course Batman comes up with excuses for why they can’t be together. He clearly wishes they could be, but he doesn’t believe it possible (as with many of his love interests). “Am I Blue?” is about a failed romance, so it’s quite fitting for Batman’s love life — and not just with Wonder Woman, but with Zatanna as well, who is brought to tears upon hearing it.
