Vixen Moving From Animated To Live Action On Arrow

The Vixen animated micro-series that was presented on CW Seed wasn’t essential viewing for fans of The Flash and Arrow earlier this year, but it did help introduce Mari McCabe into their shared universe and establish yet another DC superhero on TV. Before the end of the season, we’ll be seeing her in the flesh on Arrow as well, and brought to the life by the same person who voiced her in animated form.

TVInsider.com got to break the exclusive news earlier today that Vixen will arrive on Arrow in episode 15, and that she’ll continue to be played by Megalyn Echikunwoke.

“We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe,” Arrow and Vixen executive producer Marc Guggenheim said to TVInsider.

So far, the TV portrayal of McCabe has been pretty faithful to her comic book origins, with Mari having grown up in Africa and later gaining the Tantu Totem, giving her the ability to mimic the power of any animal. She even has links to the same real life city — Detroit — making her stand out from the fictional locales of The Flash (Central City) and Arrow (Star City).

One key to her arrival on Arrow appears to be that series’ embracing of more mystical elements in Season 4, including villain Damien Darhk, a guest appearance from John Constantine and newly revealed experiences from Oliver Queen’s past. Guggenheim had mentioned in interviews earlier this year that magic was a calling card for Vixen, so the developments on Arrow make her a more natural fit now than ever before.

An obvious question now is whether she’ll be sticking around for more than one appearance. Look for Vixen to make her presence felt in late February, and we’ll certainly tell you her exact arrival date when it gets announced.
