Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #1: First Look
By Nick Tylwalk
Have you been feeling like Wade Wilson has been reduced to a supporting character in his own book? It’s understandable given that his team of assistant Deadpools consisting of Stingray, Massacre, Solo, Foolkiller, Terror and Slapstick (and until recently, Madcap) has been in the spotlight almost as much as the man himself in the pages of Deadpool.
But hey, that’s not such a bad thing, because those guys are entertaining too. I mean, Stingray is finally getting his proper chance to shine! Plus it looks like he’ll get even more time in the spotlight once Deadpool and the Mercs For Money #1 arrives next month.
That’s right — the Deadpool squad is getting its own limited series courtesy of writer Cullen Bunn and artist Salva Espin (plus cover art by the awesome Declan Shalvey). Here’s how Marvel describes the high concept:
"Deadpool can’t be everywhere at once, so if you’ve got a problem and a pile of cash you’re not overly fond of – the legally-cleared-to-be-called Mercs for Money can help! Deadpool you know. But what about Stingray, Masacre, Solo, Foolkiller, Terror and Slapstick? Time to get acquainted with these miscreant mercenaries! Point them at the problem and watch as it’s shot, stabbed, pulverized and otherwise made bloody! But when the Mercs are hired to retrieve a strange artifact from the Beyond Corporation – they’ll soon find themselves in over their heads and up to their eyeballs in all manner of deadly assassins!"
Sounds like guaranteed entertainment. Well, as close as you can get to a guarantee anyway. I’m sure Deadpool wouldn’t want to issue an actual guarantee, seeing as so much of his money is tied up funding the Avengers.
Allow us to give you a brief preview of Deadpool and the Mercs For Money #1 …
Hey, looks like they don’t have to wear the rainbow-colored Deadpool outfits any more, so they should be happy about that. Deadpool and the Mercs For Money #1 blasts into stores and onto digital on February 3.
