Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder hints that there’s more to Doomsday than you realize

Batman v Superman is out in just under 6 weeks, and thanks to the latest trailer we know Doomsday, final villain or not, will be part of the movie. But is he merely a mutated general Zod as it would appear in the trailer, or is he more like his comic book counterpart?

Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder hinted that Doomsday indeed has a mythology, and that it might be explored further in the upcoming Justice League movies:

"Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn’t just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored…"

Next: How The Batman Of Batman v Superman is different

So this establishes two very important things. Firstly that it is certainly Doomsday, which quells any fan theories about it being someone like Bizarro. Doomsday is definitively in Batman v Superman. Secondly, by hinting at a “mythology” for Doomsday, Snyder is also basically saying that despite appearances from the trailer, Lex Luthor doesn’t just make Doomsday, he has a history. This might mean he’s closer to the Doomsday in the comics, a devastatingly powerful being who was only initially stopped when a Green Lantern sacrificed himself to send Doomsday hurtling through space (and eventually crashing into Earth, where after sleeping underground for a time, he woke up and famously fought Superman til they both died).

So how will Doomsday’s mythology be explored and how will that fit into the Justice League films? We may not get many answers in Batman v Superman, but maybe we’ll get some hints.
