Kevin Smith Gifts Harley Quinn Harley Quinn’s Bat

Kevin Smith gifts his daughter Harley Quinn’s bat from the Suicide Squad film!

Did the title of this article throw you off?  Maybe not, if you’re aware that filmmaker, podcaster, and Bat-superfan Kevin Smith’s 16-year-old daughter is named Harley Quinn.  An authentic movie prop would be an unforgettable gift for just about anyone, but how could you find a better gift for a girl named after Harley Quinn than the bat Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn wields in the character’s live-action debut (especially if the film is a success and Robbie steals the show)?  Harley Quinn Smith, an up-and-coming actress herself, took to Instagram to publish a photo with the bat that included the following caption:

"My Instagram will slowly just become pictures of me crying tears of joy.  Today the impossible became possible; my dad gave me Harley Quinn’s bat from Suicide Squad with a certificate of authenticity.  I’m not joking when I say I cried for an hour.  Life is a beautiful, magical thing.  I was coincidentally also wearing this sweater.  ONE STEP CLOSER TO PLAYING HARLEY QUINN.  I WILL MAKE YOU PROUD MARGOT."

Smith’s serious about playing her namesake too.  She told The Hollywood Reporter in January that she will “not leave this earth” until she plays Harley Quinn.

In Suicide Squad, I still would’ve preferred for Harley’s weapon-of-choice to be her infamous mallet instead of this bat, but the fact that the bat says “good night” on it (such a Harley thing to write on it) has made me decide that I would only want it replaced if the mallet would also say that.

My biggest question still remains how Kevin Smith got his hands on the bat.  While he’s done a lot of work for DC Comics, including being a pretty accomplished writer, it still doesn’t seem like it would be something they’d give away; at least not yet.  My best guesses are either that a plethora of the bats were made for filming or that it is Smith’s compensation for co-hosting the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special.  Let me know what your dream authentic Batman prop to own would be, and be sure to keep it locked to Caped Crusades for continuing Suicide Squad coverage and for all your Batman news!
