Titans May Still Be A Go
By Steve Lam
It seemed that the planets were being aligned perfectly for Titans — the new Teen Titans live-action series. We had a potential start date for production. There were rumors that a former The Vampire Diaries actor was being cast as the one and only Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Robin. But in Hollywood and in the entertainment industry in general, you should never count your chickens before they hatch. About a month ago, it was reported that TNT had passed on the series — leaving fans disappointed and sad.
However, new hope comes in the form of DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns who is closely tied to not just DC Entertainment’s publishing side, but also the incarnation of its characters in film and television. At the Television Critics Association Press Tour in January, TV Line caught up with Johns where he made some pretty revealing statements.
"We [at DC] have known about [Turner nixing Titans] for months and months and months. That’s not new news to us. We have plans for Titans … It’s a huge piece of DC and we have plans."
If that doesn’t raise a few eyebrows, I don’t know what will. One speculation is that the live-action incarnation of the Teen Titans might end up being on the silver screen — as part of the DC Extended Universe. Now that would be awesome! Since both Dick Grayson and Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg, are closely tied to the famous team, could one of the existing planned films, where those two characters are present, act as a sort of backdoor introduction to a Teen Titans film? I guess we’ll just have to patiently wait for the executive “titans” at Warner Bros. / DC to give us some more news.
