Arrow Season 4, Episode 13 Synopsis: Sins Of The Father

When last we left Oliver Queen on Arrow, he was mulling over one heck of a predicament. His sister Thea Queen is dying, the result of her severe wounding at the hands of Ra’s al Ghul last season and subsequent healing in the waters of the Lazarus Pit. Nyssa al Ghul has reappeared and offered the one thing that can cure Thea, but only if Oliver agrees to kill Malcolm Merlyn for her.

Not only has Oliver tried very hard to put killing behind him, it’s not as simple a choice as it may seem since Malcolm is Thea’s dad and has assisted Team Arrow in the past, albeit for his own purposes. Speaking of personal motivations, Oliver also knows that Nyssa wants Merlyn out of the way so she can take what she feels is her rightful place at the head of the League of Assassins.

That’s a tough spot for Green Arrow, though perhaps not any more difficult than other situations he’s found himself in before. The official synopsis for “Sins of the Father” doesn’t tell us much more than we already know, as you can see here:

"Oliver (Stephen Amell) receives an offer from Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) that is hard to refuse. Meanwhile, Thea (Willa Holland) continues to battle the blood lust, Malcolm (John Barrowman) steps in to help his daughter, and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has a heart to heart talk with Nyssa."

The lone new plot thread there is Laurel Lance talking to Nyssa. Could it be about Sara Lance? Though Nyssa pretty much gave up on her one-time love after she was restored to life by the Lazarus Pit, she doesn’t know that John Constantine helped make her whole again. Sara is currently busy trying to save the world on Legends of Tomorrow, but she’s in a similar situation as Thea in terms of having to deal with the bloodlust the Pit creates.

If Laurel finds out the Lotus can permanently save someone from the Pit’s effects, could she be motivated to try making her own deal with Nyssa to save Sara? That would put an interesting if agonizing twist on some of the character relationships on Arrow for sure.
