We get a tiny update on next year’s Lego Batman Movie

We may not bet getting a proper solo Batman movie until at least 2018 (remember, it hasn’t been officially confirmed that it is even being made yet), but in the meantime, we may get the next best thing, as a Lego Batman Movie starring Will Arnett as Batman, Michael Cera as Robin, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl and in the most random casting as all, Mariah Carey as the mayor of Gotham next year.

LEGO Movie producer Roy Lee gave a brief update on the Lego Batman movie, while talking about the trio of Lego movies that will be hitting theaters in the next two years (Ninjago, which is due out September of next year, followed by The Lego Movie 2, which will hit theaters in the Spring of 2016).

It wasn’t a huge update, but Lee said that the film is “currently being animated right now,” and that “seeing where Batman lives in full LEGO [is something] the audience will love. Gotham City fully rendered in LEGO.” Lego Batman is being directed by Chris McKay, who was the animation supervisor on The Lego Movie.

Yes, Gotham City full rendered in Lego sounds pretty awesome. And I’ve mentioned this before, but I hope the movie Lego Batman meets Home Video Lego Batman, because that would be hilarious. The Lego Batman Movie is due out in theaters February 10th, 2017.
