Morgan Freeman Seems Very Doubtful that Batman V Superman Will Be Better Than Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy

Batman v Superman has a lot of challenges and expectations going up against it. The biggest one might be he inevitable comparison to Christopher Nolan’s seminal Dark Knight Trilogy, which brought Batman back from cinematic near death after the disastrous Batman & Robin. Will Batman v Superman be able to stand tall with arguably the greatest series of superhero movies ever made? Well Morgan Freeman is pretty doubtful of that.

Morgan Freeman, who played Lucius Fox in the Nolan Batman movies, has a pretty strong opinion on the matter:

"You know, I’m happy for Ben, but I don’t know how that’s gonna work. Because the Dark Knight was almost ‘it.’ Pretty much ‘it’. Did you see Batman Begins? I don’t think you can beat that."

And the Batman of the Christopher Nolan movies, Christian Bale, appreciated the statement, but had a more diplomatic response:

"Everyone brings their own element to that — Ben [Affleck] will do that as well. I think the trailers are looking great and I’m looking forward to that. But right on for Morgan [Freeman] for saying no one will ever be that, I very much like him."

Well, to be fair, Batman v Superman doesn’t have to be better than the Dark Knight Trilogy in order to be considered a success. Honestly at this point I think people will be relived if it’s just fun and entertaining. It’s a different beast, really. But we’ll find out how the movies compare when Batman v Superman opens March 25th.
