Batman v Superman: Jena Malone Isn’t Batgirl

Jena Malone is not Batgirl (or Robin) in Batman v Superman

Though she’s been officially cut from the theatrical release of Batman v Superman, many are still wondering what Jena Malone’s role in the movie is. She will definitely be in the R-rated Director’s cut of the movie, hinting that it may be a character who might  have a bigger role in future DC movies. Is she Batgirl? Is she Carrie Kelley? Is she Lucy Lane? Well, we still don’t really know, but Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder shot down a couple of possibilities while still really leaving the door open.

"I think we should keep it private, but it’s nothing that’s been talked about. She’s definitely not Robin or Batgirl. I’m happy to say that."

There is a lot of wiggle room in that statement. Jena Malone isn’t Batgirl, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t Barbara Gordon. She could easily be in the GCPD on her way up (she was Commissioner in Batman Beyond) as an officer, she could easily be Oracle. Of course, she could be another character entirely. A decent possibility might be Huntress, which I think has been brought up before, but the rumors of Malone playing Batgirl have been so strong that we may have just forgotten about those.

Who is Jena Malone in Batman v Superman? Barbara Gordon but not Batgirl? Huntress? Batwoman (yes, for those not that familiar with the bat-themed superheroes, there is a Batgirl and a Batwoman and they are different people)? We’ll have to wait for the director’s cut of Batman v Superman to find out!
