The Lego Batman Movie Gets Its First Trailer

From the people that brought you The Dark Knight and the Lego Movie (?!?) comes the first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie.

I think it goes without saying that 2014’s The Lego Movie was quite the unexpected hit with just about everybody. It was funny, touching and had a lot of heart, which are all things I don’t think anyone was prepared for from a movie based on a toy that was first released in 1932.

One of the breakout stars of the film was Batman. Voiced by Will Arnett, this version of the Dark Knight was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. Vain, funny and always needing to be the center of attention, Arnett made this Batman his own and pretty much stole the show.

Which is why next year, Batman will be getting his own spinoff film.

The Batman Lego Movie will star Arnett in addition to Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera and Mariah Carey. Directed by Chris McKay and written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the film looks to recapture what made The Lego Movie such a huge hit with both critics and audiences.

And from the first trailer, which was released on Wednesday, it looks like they may have done it.

It isn’t often I laugh out loud while watching a trailer. Most of the time they only put a little bit of the good stuff in the trailer and the rest is just a whole lot of filler. But this had me laughing from the word go.

Arnett nails it once again as Batman and the tone of the film is just beyond perfect. In fact, in the wake of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and its dark tones, I think this might be just what we need. At the very least, maybe they should sit Zack Snyder down and make him watch it.

The Lego Batman Movie hits theaters on February 10, 2017.
