Suicide Squad Reshoots For Action, Not Humor
Suicide Squad is getting reshoots, but not to make it funnier
Suicide Squad got a lot of fans pumped with it’s first official trailer. It seemed sharp and fun and funny. It went great with Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody! Hey, those are all things that Batman v Superman, love or hate it, is not! But then reports came along that the actual movie didn’t really resemble what was represented in the trailer. The good news on that end was Warner Bros. was apparently committed to expensive reshoots for Suicide Squad to make it more like the trailer everyone seemed to enjoy.
Now, Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang in the film, is confirming that these reshoots are happening, but not for the reasons originally reported. Courtney says Suicide Squad actually has plenty of humor in it already, and the reshoots primarily are for adding more action to the film.
Next: Suicide Squad Will Definitely Be PG-13
Now, before you get any ideas, more action does not mean they are suddenly aiming for an “R” rating with Suicide Squad, it’s been made pretty clear they want that film to be PG-13 (and really most DC movies). I personally think this is most likely a positive move, as long as Jai Courtney is correct and the humor and wit everyone enjoyed in that first official trailer is there. Pile on all the action, just keep the fun tone. It will be really interesting to see how Suicide Squad does because it really is pretty much seemingly the exact opposite of Batman v Superman. Will it be better received? And will it out-gross a film starring DC’s two biggest heroes? And will that cause ripple effects for future DC films? We’ll start to find that out when Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th.
