Dark Horse Comics Announces Four New Titles At ECCC

Dark Horse Comics used Emerald City Comicon to announce several new titles that will be making their way to comic shops in 2016.

Emerald City Comicon is traditionally the first of the big summer conventions out of the gate and unlike San Diego Comic-Con and the various Wizard World shows, the focus there is still squarely on comic books.

The annual convention, taking place in Seattle Washington every April, usually boasts a large and varied lineup of creators and publishers, some of whom get lost in the Hollywood hype machine of the larger, more pop culture-focused shows. At the smaller ECCC, they use the opportunity to connect with readers and announces new titles heading your way during the coming months.

One publisher that has always used the show to great effect is Dark Horse Comics and this year’s ECCC is no exception. Dark Horse announced no less than four new series at ECCC, all of which should appeal to fans of Dark Horse’s varied and eclectic family of titles.

More from News

First up is Groo: Fray of the Gods by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier, with Tom Luth and Stan Sakai, the same creative team that has made Groo one of the funniest creator-owned comic books in history.

"The gods did not bless Groo with brains, only with the ability to battle. Now, they themselves are in conflict over the spirit and future of mankind…and it is Groo who becomes the pawn (unwitting, of course) in their war. If the future of humanity depends on the Wanderer—we’re all in a lot of trouble."

Groo: Fray of the Gods, a 12-issue limited series, will hit store shelves on July 20, 2016.

Next is Bounty, a new creator-owned ongoing series from Rat Queens writer Kurtis Wiebe and artist Mindy Lee.

"The Gadflies were the most wanted criminals in the galaxy. Over the years, they’d stolen from the galaxy’s most evil corporations and redistributed their ill-gotten gains to the less fortunate. Doing so earned them a reputation as the roughest outlaws in the universe—with a bounty to match! Now, with the law closing in on them, the Gadflies are forced to abandon their bandit personas in favor of a new career as bounty hunters . . . ’cause if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em—then rob ’em for all they’re worth!"

Bounty #1 arrives in stores July 6, 2016.

Next up Dark Horse is teaming up with BOOM! Studios for Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes, an odd paring if ever there was one. The five-issue miniseries will be written by Tim Seeley and David Walker with art by Fernando Dagnino and covers by Duncan Fegredo.

"In Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes, Tarzan and his ape brother Caesar, raised as brothers but separated by slave traders, reunite when the war between man and ape takes them from the jungles of Africa to the center of the Earth."

Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes will be in your local comic shop on September 28, 2016.

Finally there is Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens, which will see the three science fiction icons throw down in a four-issue miniseries by writer John Layman with art by Chris Mooneyham) and covers by Eisner Award winner Glenn Fabry.

"Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson have tracked a criminal cult across the Cursed Earth and into the Alabama morass, where a mad genetic scientist with destructive designs has acquired the best genes that evolution has to offer—a xenomorph skull! A Predator, attracted to the warm climate and superior prey, has declared hunting season as he calls for backup. All paths will cross in a mind-blowing sci-fi showdown with the fate of the Earth at stake!"

Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens #1 hits stores on July 27, 2016.
