A deal for Robert Downey Jr. to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming has become official, which means nothing but good things for fans.

Casting for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first film in the new arrangement between Marvel Studios and Sony, continues to gain steam with a huge addition to the cast becoming official on Thursday.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. has signed a deal to join the cast of Homecoming, which will continue to develop the relationship between the two heroes that is first established in Captain America: Civil War.

He joins Tom Holland, who will make his debut as Spidey in Civil War, as well as Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya, Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier in unspecified roles. The film will be directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.

While Downey has said he isn’t overly interested in doing Iron Man 4, it seems he can’t step away from the character as in addition to Homecoming he will also appear as Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.

So while we may not get another Iron Man solo film, fans should be thrilled that Downey will be sticking around for the duration in some capacity.

More than any other character, with the possible exception of Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury, Tony Stark has been the glue that has held the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe together. This whole thing started with Iron Man so it is only appropriate that Stark should be there when Spider-Man, possibly the only Marvel character with a higher profile, makes his big screen solo debut.

In addition, having Downey in the film continues to strengthen the connection between the new Sony Spider-Man reboot and the rest of the MCU. It is a given that a follow-up to Homecoming will be a large part of Marvel’s Phase Four plans and this could be an indication that Downey just might decide to stick around past Avengers: Infinity War Part 2.

Downey is known for not signing the multi-picture deals with Marvel that other stars have, instead negotiating as the offers to appear in certain movies come up. Given that the MCU is getting ready to move into its next phase, this could be the way to keep many of the original stars around once their existing contracts are completed.

Because let’s be honest here, who doesn’t want to see Thor team up with Doctor Strange or Hawkeye appear in the next Ant-Man film?
