Supergirl: Who Is In The Kryptonian Pod?

Supergirl ended its first season with a cliffhanger that has fans of the show buzzing: who arrived in the Kryptonian pod?

Most will agree that the first season of Supergirl had its ups and downs, but overall it was a fun, entertaining show that gave fans of DC another option besides the Arrowverse on the CW. Melissa Benoist was outstanding as Kara/Supergirl and the rest of the cast more then held their own.

Yes, Supergirl did have its fair share of issues, but also delivered some great television on a number of occasions. The Flash crossover in “Worlds Finest” was a highlight that showed just what the show was capable of as was Kara’s turn to evil in “Falling”. “Manhunter” featuring David Harewood was another fun episode and “Solitude” gave fans enough Easter Eggs to last a lifetime.

The season finale, “Better Angels” brought the first season to a satisfying conclusion, even if the end did feel a bit rushed in places.

However, that isn’t what has fans talking excitedly, looking forward to a season two.

No, what has fans beside themselves is what happened in the last few minutes.

As everyone was starting to relax and was enjoying their happy ending, Alex sees something streaking across the sky that ends up crashing in National City. It turns out to be a Kryptonian pod, identical to the one that sent Kara to Earth all those years ago. Supergirl rips it open and immediately recognizes what is inside as the show and season come to an end.

Which has all of the internet a buzz with the question: who is in the pod?

Entertainment Weekly went right to Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg about the mystery and as you would expect, he was tight-lipped about who or what is in the pod.

"“Again, I don’t want to give too much away, but it’ll be cool. The fans are going to be excited. It’s going to definitely shake things up for season 2.”"

So we are left to our own devices to try and decipher who may be the new arrival.

Krypto the Superdog
Okay. This would be fairly obvious and an easy way out. But c’mon, who wouldn’t love to see a dog running around with a red cape on?

Superboy
Odds are running about even that considering an appearance by Project Cadmus is a given if we get a second season of Supergirl, that Superboy is the one in the pod. And while that seems like a logical conclusion, it doesn’t really seem likely to me.

General Zod
Although Zod has always been considered a Superman villain, there is no reason to think he couldn’t do a great job making Kara’s life a living hell. Unlikely, but interesting to think about.

Astra
Considering this is a show based on a comic book, anyone who thought Aunt Astra was going to stay dead forever was sadly mistaken. Kryptonians have show a real penchant for cheating death and I’m willing to bet it was never if Astra was going to return, but just a matter of when.

Will it be any of these? Or someone no one is expecting? I guess we’ll all have to wait to see if Supergirl gets picked up for a second season before we will know for certain.
