The Simpsons Had A New Batman Reference
Last Sunday was just the latest in several times the Simpsons have referenced the Caped Crusader in some way
The Simpsons has been around longer than most TV shows ever have. And as a pop culture zeitgeist it often makes a lot of jokes and references to some of the most popular things in pop culture. So it’s only natural that every now and again they would make some sort of reference, subtle or otherwise, to one of the most enduring comic book heroes, Batman!
I mean, it even goes back to the very first episode, where Bart Simpson sings a certain version of Jingle Bells.
They also remind us that Batman is a scientist
They’ve even had TV’s Batman, Adam West on the show:
And actually, these are just a few of the many, many Batman references you can find throughout the run of the Simpsons. You can actually get a full list right here.
Well with Batman v Superman now out in theaters, it seems like the Simpsons wanted to throw another Batman gag out there once more. It is a very quick, sort of blink and you might miss it reference, but when Homer and crew get off the bus, there’s a billboard advertising a movie featuring two heroes about to square off in the background. It’s pretty small, so it is easy to miss, but look at it blown up a bit:
So yeah, obviously a reference to this year’s big screen DC suerhero brawl, Batman v Superman. Of course, unlike Batman v Superman, Batman v Batwoman is actually the proper use of “v”because that indicates a court battle, not a physical one (remind me why it isn’t just called Batman vs. Superman again?).

The Simpsons has a long and rich history of referencing pop culture, but perhaps nothing so often as Batman. Odds are it will have more references before it eventually ends in the year 3000…
