Anthony Mackie thought Ben Affleck “shined” as Batman in Batman v Superman

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters next Friday, and while much like Batman v Superman, it features good guys slugging it out, the two are very different films. Though that hasn’t stopped Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in Civil War from doing a little trash talking about Batman v Superman in the past…

But to be fair, Mackie seems past that all now. He’s even actually seen Batman v Superman, and has some incredibly high praise for Ben Affleck’s performance in the film:

"The interesting thing about that interview, that whole conversation I was saying how much I liked the character of Superman, and how I liked the old Superman, and how it deterred from that line, but after seeing Batman V Superman, I’m very glad they brought it back. I feel like, I said, with your friend who cut that to make it look like I said that, which I didn’t, but anybody will do anything. When I saw that movie I was really excited about it because I said Ben Affleck would be the perfect Superman, I mean Batman, and when you see the movie he is the best thing about the movie, he shines as Batman."

Even among those who didn’t have a high opinion of Batman v Superman, most could agree that one of the highlights was Ben Affleck’s performance as Batman, and Anthony Mackie counts among those people. I wonder if he found out that Civil War may never have even happened if not for Batman v Superman being made, and decided not to trash it quite so much. Batman v Superman is in theaters now and Captain America: Civil War opens May 6th.
