Preview: Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 From Marvel Comics

Thanks to Marvel Comics, we are thrilled to present a preview of the first issue of the new series Captain America: Steve Rogers.

I don’t think anyone was exactly shocked to see Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, restored to his fighting prime in the pages of Avengers Standoff. It was never a matter of if Steve would be back in the spandex fighting the good fight, but when it would happen.

But I think what did catch everyone off-guard was that once it was announced Steve would be coming back it was going to be in a second ongoing Captain America series that would run concurrently with Captain America: Sam Wilson.

Is the Marvel Universe big enough for two regular Captain America series? This May we will find out.

After a special prologue that will be hitting stores on this year’s Free Comic Book Day on May 7, Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 will arrive on May 25, 2016. Written by Nick Spencer with art by Jesus Saiz, the new series will focus on Steve’s fight with the Red Skull and the resurrected Hydra as well as his relationships with Sam Wilson and Sharon Carter.

According to Spencer, both this series and Captain America: Sam Wilson will essentially be flip sides of the same coin, so if you are reading one, there is a good chance you will eventually be reading the other.

"He may be back but the celebration will be short lived. Steve isn’t the only one who’s returned stronger than ever. Hydra has re-emerged. Led by his greatest foe, the Red Skull, Hydra has begun to worm its way into every corner of the Marvel Universe. Anyone can be a threat. Trust no one. Captain America: Steve Rogers arrives on May 25 and will feature a cover by Saiz with variant covers by Steve Epting, Skottie Young, Jim Steranko, John Tyler Christopher, Jeffrey Veregge, Paul Renaud and Greg Hildebrandt.
