By Steve Lam
In the Season One finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the team is given the chance to decide if they’re willing to sacrifice everything to save the world.
On DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s penultimate Season One episode, “Destiny,” the team was captured by the Time Masters—who were in cahoots with Vandal Savage. And it was up to Leonard and Sara to save them.

Rip and the team were also revealed some devastating information: the Time Masters have been controlling everyone’s destiny since the beginning. Everything they’ve done, every battle they’ve fought—have all been pre-planned by the Time Masters.
How did they do this? And why did they do this? The Time Masters had a device called the Oculus which allowed them to see across all of time, as well as manipulate it. Savage’s genocidal purging would actually unite the world—something that would be needed when the Thangarians invaded.
Sans Kendra and Carter—who were taken by Savage—the team was rescued by Leonard and Sara. As the Legends regrouped, they formed a plan to destroy the Oculus. At first, Ray attempts to sacrifice his own life to destroy it, but Mick would hear none of that—as he knocked Ray out and wanted to sacrifice himself. Leonard finally arrived and did the same thing to Mick.
In the end, Leonard destroys the Oculus, killing himself and Time Master Druce in the process. The team is saddened, but has even more motivation to go after Savage. This week, the season finale episode will see the team embrace their destiny. Here’s the official synopsis for “Legendary”:
"THE FINAL BATTLE – After the numerous sacrifices the team has made since the beginning of this ride, Rip (Arthur Darvill) decides that it’s time they each decide their own destiny and returns them to Central City a few months after they first left. Returned to their normal lives, each team member must individually decide if they are willing to sacrifice everything in order to save the world. Meanwhile, Sara (Caity Lotz) visits with her father (guest star Paul Blackthorne) who delivers some heartbreaking news about her sister. Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Chris Fedak and teleplay by Phil Klemmer & Marc Guggenheim."
