How Does Rebirth Affect Batman?

DC’s Rebirth event will affect Batman in some major ways

DC’s line-wide reboot that they keep claiming isn’t a reboot, Rebirth, starts off next week with Rebirth #1, an 80page one shot setting up the entire premise and some if not all of the big revelations are contained in that issue. What far reaching implications Rebirth will have is of course, anybody’s guess, we won’t really find that out til the conclusion of the story and how the DC comics universe shakes out afterwords.

Now of course, with Rebirth being such a huge event, DC has tried to keep any big revelations under wraps, but somebody of course got their hands on a copy and  broke the embargo, spilling just about every major detail revealed in the one shot coming out this Tuesday. While we are not going to mention every big thing, since we are a Batman site, we will focus on the things directly related to Batman.

SPOILERS: THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING. THE FOLLOWING WILL CONTAIN HUGE SPOILERS FOR DC’S REBIRTH #1, OUT THIS WEDNESDAY. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO KNOW:

Now, if you’ve been reading Justice League (or just keeping up with big comics news in general), you’ll know that at some point, Batman became the God Of Knowledge and learned the truth about the Joker’s identity. While you’d think knowing the Joker’s name probably wouldn’t matter, you are correct, because it’s more about the nature of his identity. In Rebirth #1, it is revealed that there is not one Joker, but THREE. One is the original Clown Prince Of Crime, one from Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke and the third is the more recent Joker we know from the New 52 Universe and was in the “Endgame” storyline. How and if these Jokers are related hasn’t been revealed, but that will certainly be something dealt with down the line.

The other huge revelation  isn’t directly Batman related, but will of course affect him and every other DC character, is Batman finds a symbol of The Comedian from The Watchmen in the Batcave! That’s right, The Watchmen exist in the DC Universe. And one of them is responsible for the last ten years of everything happening in DC (in comic book time, I believe the ten years represents the timeline of the New 52).

You can certainly check out other sites to see other spoilers about Rebirth, but I still plan on picking it up this Wednesday and I hope you do too.
