Suicide Squad To Have Sequel & Spin-Offs?

Joker, Harley Quinn and even Captain Boomerang may be getting their own Suicide Squad spin-offs

Suicide Squad seems like a hotly anticipated movie, so it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is trying to really cash in on the hype. There’s already a confirmed Harley Quinn-focused spin-off in the works, and supposedly, Suicide Squad 2 is already in the early development stages. But, according to We’ve Got This Covered, Warner Bros. is going all-in on Suicide Squad even more than you’d think, with multiple spin-offs planned.

Essentially not only is a sequel to Suicide Squad a lock, but likely candidates for a spin-off movie in addition to Harley Quinn are Joker (which reportedly Jared Leto is very open to doing) and most surprising-Captain Boomerang. The Warner Bros. executives are apparently very hot on the character.

Eh, I dunno about this. Don’t get me wrong, I think Suicide Squad looks fantastic, and I’m very excited for sequel possibilities and a Harley Quinn spin-off. But as popular as Joker is, does anyone want to see him in a solo movie? He’s not just a bad guy, he’s a goddamn lunatic, and he needs to have a hero (usually Batman) to face. He’s not the type of character to star in his own film. Far more perplexing is Boomerang. I mean, he might be incredibly funny in the movie or something, but nobody is going to want to see a Captain Boomerang solo movie (well ok, I might because suddenly we are living in a world where Captain Boomerang is getting a solo film, but nobody else would). And oddly enough, Will Smith, the biggest star in the movie, playing one of the key characters in the film, Deadshot, isn’t even mentioned for spin-off possibilities? Not that I’m aching to see that, it just seemed like the super obvious route. Regardless, Suicide Squad opens August 5th, and apparently we might be seeing much more of Task Force X for many years after that.
