Thanks to Valiant Entertainment, we have a preview of the second issue of their summer blockbuster event 4001 A.D.

From everything I have seen, it sure seems to me like Valiant is really trying everything they can think of to put the rest of the comic book world on notice.

From announcing a multitude of new titles to the fact they have films based on their characters coming to a theater near you very soon, Valiant is trying very hard to make The Big Two of comic books The Big Three.

You may laugh, but that could really happen. Every year without fail they have published an event featuring their line of titles that becomes not only a critical darling but the type of book fans of the company push off into the hands of their friends and tell them “You have to read this!”

Add in that almost every time the event is incredibly new-reader friendly and you have all the makings of a hit.

This year that title is 4001 A.D. Focused on the character Rai the book features the creative team of writer Matt Kindt and artist extraordinaire Clayton Crain telling the story of the Valiant Universe of the far flung future. The first issue was an instant hit and that doesn’t look to be changing in issue #2, which goes on sale in June.

From the Valiant press release:

"Rai is smashing headfirst into New Japan with his team of hardened rebels including the Eternal Warrior and a giant X-O Manowar mech-armor that’s been dormant for centuries! But when Father transforms New Japan into an impenetrable space dragon as a defense of last resort, what hopes will the united heroes of 4001 A.D. have of freeing the citizens of New Japan from Father’s brutal reign? Will Rai have to destroy New Japan…to save it?"
