Image Announces Three New Image Firsts Editions

Image Comics has announced three new additions to their Image Firsts line which will hit store shelves this July.

Since 2010, Image Comics has occasionally released what they call Image Firsts editions of some of their most popular titles. The idea is to reprint the first issue of a popular series and sell it for the grand total of one dollar.

Yep. One dollar.

In the past this has meant you could grab the first issues of The Walking Dead, Spawn, Chew, Invincible, Saga, Sex Criminals and more for just a buck. And if this happens to entice you to read the rest of the series, all the better considering that most of what Image publishes is better than what you can get from the Big Two.

On Monday, Image announced the latest titles to join the Image Firsts program and they couldn’t have picked three titles that are more different from each other yet represent some of the best material Image is currently publishing.

First up is Paper Girls from the minds of Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang.

"In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time. Stand By Me meets War of the Worlds in this mysterious young adult adventure, starting with a spectacular double-sized first issue."

Next is Monstress from writer Marjorie Liu and artists Sana Takeda.

"Steampunk meets Kaiju in this original fantasy epic for mature readers, as young Maika risks everything to control her psychic link with a monster of tremendous power, placing her in the center of a devastating war between human and otherworldly forces."

And finally we have the twisted I Hate Fairyland from the brain of Skottie Young.

"In an adventure that ain’t for the little kiddies, (unless you have super cool parents, then whatever), you’ll meet Gert—a six year old girl who has been stuck in the magical world of Fairyland for thirty years and will hack and slash her way through anything to find her way back home. Join Gert and her giant battle-axe on a delightfully blood soaked journey to see who will survive the girl who hates Fairyland."

It should be noted that most of these first issues were quite a bit larger than your standard comic. In the case of Monstress that means a triple-sized 66-page first issue for only 100 pennies.

You are not going to find a better deal than that anywhere.

All three Image Firsts editions will be in stores on July 13, 2016, just as San Diego Comic-Con gets under way. Don’t miss the bus on these titles a second time.
