Bryan Hitch discusses what has changed for the team in Justice League Rebirth

Few teams may see as big a shakeup post-Rebirth as The Justice League. They have a Green Lantern, two in fact, but ones with complicated histories involving the Justice League. Superman is there, but this isn’t the Superman that Batman had been friends with for all of The New 52, this is a different Superman, one he really doesn’t know. This Superman is actually far more experienced, but also is used to watching events from a distance, and actually Batman has to urge him to join the Justice League for the sake of the world, as Bryan Hitch, the writer on Justice League, explains:

"His (Superman’s) real touchstone to the super hero world on this Earth is Lois. That’s his anchor and his heart—his family. The fact that this Superman is married and does have a child, that’s something you can’t conveniently forget just because you’re doing big scale Justice League stories. That emotion still has to drive through whatever you’re throwing at them, and it does. There are actually scenes between Batman and Lois which are just really powerful, emotionally speaking.Superman comes into the first arc because they need him. Frankly, he’s the only one who can do what they need. Nobody else on Earth would have a chance at surviving, and Batman has to go and ask him to do it. But the driving force behind that scene is what he has to say to Lois. This could mean goodbye because there’s no guarantee he’s going to come back. It’s such a big thing that it’s doubtful that even Superman will survive it. But he has to do it because if he doesn’t, nobody on Earth will survive."

It’s good to see a shakeup and new team dynamic for Justice League post-Rebirth. Though I always feel like Cyborg should be a Teen Titan, just because that’s how I really got introduced to him. We’ll be seeing if this new Justice League, being a mix of older heroes with a couple newer ones actually breathes some new life into Justice League Rebirth. Issue #1 will be available July 6th, and you can read more about Bryan Hitch’s thoughts on Justice League and more here
