A preview of Dark Knight III #5

Rebirth may have brought back optimism and hope to the DC Universe, but over in the world of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight III: The Master Race, things are looking quite as hopeful. The “Master Race” is the Kryptonians from the bottle city of Kandor. But no longer contained to their bottle city, this army of supermen have declared themselves to be worshipped as gods. Superman has been defeated (mainly due to his refusal to fight against his daughter Lara who is on the side of the Kandor Kryptonians) and has been banished into “black space” and even Wonder Woman seems to be ignoring any calls from Batman for help.

But issue #5 seems to be Batman enabling his backup plan, as he gave Carrie Kelley the means to free Superman from Dark Space (with some assistance from Aquaman). Superman is probably a little more ready to kick some Kryptonian ass now, but even with help from Batman & Aquaman, can they stand against an entire army of Kryptonians? Next: Detective Comics: Who Is Colony?

Dark Knight III: The Master race was originally supposed to be a conclusion to the Dark Knight saga, but Frank Miller has since said he wants to do a 4th Dark Knight story. I have no idea if this will affect how Dark Knight III is going to finish out. And being that each issue is $6 I haven’t really kept up with it, so I don’t know if it’s a return to form or if we basically have another Dark Knight Stirkes Again on out hands (but given the worst reaction I’ve seen is basically “meh”, it is probably an improvement from that series). Dark Knight III: The Master Race #5 will be availble this Wednesday June 29th.
