New Title U.S. Avengers To Debut This Fall
By D. Goodman
Marvel has unveiled the U.S. Avengers, the first title of their new Marvel NOW! Divided We Stand initiative.
Let the cavalcade of new series and first issues commence.
In the wake of Marvel taking the wraps off their latest promotion, titled Marvel NOW! Divided We Stand, the first of what is sure to be a slew of new titles and relaunches had made its debut.
As revealed by the Washington Post on Friday, the first title out of the gate is U.S. Avengers, a book that it seems will replace New Avengers in Marvel’s current lineup.

The book features an eclectic roster of returning characters as well as new ones, including Cannonball, Sunspot, Squirrel Girl and Red Hulk as well as a brand new Iron Patriot and a Captain America of the future.
Ewing told the Post that there was a particular reason the roster came together like it did.
"“We wanted a couple of members that’d speak to the U.S. in the title — hence super-scientist and supporting player Dr. Toni Ho stepping up to the main team as the new Iron Patriot, and General Ross waiting in the wings as the Red Hulk. And, of course, Danielle Cage, the Captain America of about thirty years in the future, who’ll be joining us for at least the first arc, as an enemy from her time comes to ours to stir up trouble.”"
Thanks to Marvel we have a preview of the cast and how they will appear in the new series.
Ewing, who is British, also says that America and its people will feature prominently in the new series.
"“I’m interested in America, in exploring the reasons I like your country and love your citizens. I don’t think patriotism should be uncritical or unthinking — we’re seeing in Britain where that leads, and it’s horrible. I’m afraid for us. But that urge to love and care for the home you’ve made, whether you were born to it or chose it or fled to it, that’s worth something. People use it as a weapon, but it’s also an engine that drives great positive change in our communities.”"
As to whether there will be a New Avengers series going forward or if the title will be retired for a bit is unknown.
Honestly, I’m not sure what to think of this just yet. The idea of once every year Marvel cancelling a whole bunch of series that are barely a year old to replace them with new ones isn’t all that appealing. With Civil War II not getting the response Marvel was expecting in the wake of the popularity of DC Rebirth, you have to wonder if the fans may have had enough of the constant relaunches.

Of course, Red Hulk with that mustache is just too cool for words, so who knows.
U.S. Avengers by Al Ewing and Paco Medina goes on sale this fall.
