Suicide Squad: Joker Dresses Like Batman?

Does Joker’s obsession with Batman take on a whole new level in Suicide Squad?

So, on the level of fan theories, this might be one of the more insane ones out there, but it’s got just enough ridiculousness and one of those things a self-important “auteur” might do when he’s making a comic book film and wants to put his unique stamp on it but it actually ruins the whole goddamn movie. And if this is true, this might definitely ruin Suicide Squad.

So Joker is completely obsessed with Batman. That’s his gig. Arguably he’s obsessed with breaking Batman, making him go places and do things he didn’t think he was capable of, and not in a good way. But he’s never wanted to actually become Batman, right?

Well this official Suicide Squad Hot Toys statue at San Diego Comic Con says otherwise. It’s clearly the Suicide Squad Joker, grills, tattoos and all, dressed up like Batman. Now, the sensible part of me wants to say, oh this is simply something cool and fun with a twist they did for Suicide Squad at San Diego Comic Con, this won’t actually be in the movie. They might make a collector’s figure out of it, that’s really all there is to it.

But on the other hand, as ComicBookMovies points out, Hot Toys is generally not in the business of making variants or weird twists on stuff in movies, they just make figures directly from the movies. So suddenly that makes it very possible that at some point, Joker dresses up like Batman in Suicide Squad.

I lean on the side of this not being true, and I really hope it isn’t, because I can’t see this being anything other than ridiculous. Yes, Joker is obsessed with Batman, but he doesn’t want to be him, even for a laugh. Suicide Squad is all over this week’s SDCC, and the movie opens in theaters August 5th.
