Via Variety, Kiersey Clemons has been cast in the role of Iris West opposite Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen / The Flash in the DC Extended Universe’s The Flash. This news comes after weeks of speculation where three front-runners were mentioned—one of them being Clemons’s name.

Kiersey Clemons started her acting career in television where her most well-known role was playing the character of Kira Starr in Austin & Ally. Other television roles included Shake It Up, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Transparent, and Eye Candy. For film, her credits include Prom?! (2013), Dope (2015), and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016). The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa also directed Dope, making The Flash the second collaboration between the director and the actress.

There are actually two characters in the DC universe named Iris West. One of them is from an alternate future timeline which was the basis for Kingdom Come. She is formally known as Iris West II and is the daughter of Wally West and Linda Park. This Iris becomes Kid Flash.

Though not formally confirmed, it’s a guarantee that the Iris West in the DCEU’s The Flash will be the original Iris West who’s the girlfriend, later wife, of Barry Allen. Created by Robert Kanigher, Carmine Infantino, and Joe Kubert, this character made her first appearance in Showcase #4 (September–October 1956), and is a reporter for the Picture News in Central City.
