Margot Robbie says she’s trying to make a Harley/Joker spin-off happen

Even the bad reviews (and that’s sadly a large majority of them) of Suicide Squad have pretty universally praised Margot Robbie’s turn as comics most popular female character, Harley Quinn. And Margot Robbie feels very lucky to have landed the role and seems extremely invested in it:

"I feel like I hit the lottery…The chicks never get these roles — we never get the roles where we have the funny one-liners and then the kick-ass action scene, but then also, like, an intricate character with an awesome story arc — you just don’t really get that, like in a big-budget film."

Margot Robbie did also discuss the fact that is was really clear many scenes, several of which focused on Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker did not make the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad:

"There was so much of our backstory…they probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission we were on, and kind of explaining The Enchantress’ position and all that kind of stuff, and the backstory stuff — though it’s like magic…there’s a lot but it just didn’t make sense to confuse the present storyline with that."

It’s been pretty heavily reported that Margot Robbie is deeply involved in making a Harley Quinn movie, possibly a very DC female-character centric Harley Quinn movie. She didn’t comment on this rumored project but did indicate she’s trying hard to make some form of a Harley/Joker spin-off happen:

"I’m trying to make that happen. Not for anything specifically, but just something — there’s so much more to do."

It seems pretty obvious that it would be super dumb for Warner Bros. not to make at least a couple of films centered on Harley Quinn in some fashion after her reception from Suicide Squad. Though one with the Joker would presumably explore the more abusive nature of their relationship, maybe it would lead to her realizing how much better off she is without Joker and lead to the much healthier relationships she enjoys in the comics now (namely with Poison Ivy).
