No R-rated Cut Of Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad was never envisioned as an R-rated movie according to David Ayer
So Suicide Squad currently is a financial success (we’ll see if that holds, BvS was one until it’s second weekend) but a critical failure. We know that there was a lot of stuff left on the cutting room floor, much of it sounds like it would’ve expanded a lot of stories left unfinished and made better sense of the overall plot of Suicide Squad.
So now, much like Batman v Superman, people are practically expecting there to be an “R” rated version of Suicide Squad with some if not all of that extra footage crammed in there. While he doesn’t say there won’t be any kind of extended cut, Suicide Squad director David Ayer does explain that there won’t be an R-rated version of Suicide Squad because there is no footage that would make it R-rated to begin with:
"You could easily make this R-rated by having two F-bombs or someone smoke a cigarette. But that’s not what I think people mean when they ask for an R-rated version, so it was always meant to be a PG-13. It’s a decision you make before you turn the cameras on."
He also tackled the amount (or lack thereof) of Joker in Suicide Squad given the fact that Jared Leto has mentioned they cut a lot of his scenes out (some of which can be seen in trailers for the movie, but not in the theatrical cut):
"I think there was an expectation of what the film should have been. People really wanted more Joker and wanted him to be an A-plot component. And it’s funny how the critics call it a cameo but he has some fantastic sequences that are really important for the film. He really influences the journey quite a bit."

Uh no, Mr. Ayer. Joker doesn’t have an effect on anything. He almost takes Harley away, but then doesn’t. And that’s it. You can literally lift him out of the film and it would’ve been the same. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy his performance and chemistry with Margot Robbie, but he was super unnecessary to the movie. Suicide Squad is in theaters now.
