Gotham: Bruce Wayne’s Doppleganger
Bruce Wayne’s mysterious doppelganger on Gotham will actually teach him some new things
Easily the biggest surprise of season 2 of Gotham was the appearance of a kid that looks exactly like Bruce Wayne with really long hair. Is it a monster? An evil twin? A long lost brother? Gotham Executive Producer Ken Woodruff touched on what kind of impact this doppelganger will have and that certain groups may want to get their hands on him in season 3:
"We’re bringing him in to show Bruce Wayne a lot of things. It’s easier to see things in someone else than it is to see them in yourself. The whole idea of split personalities, like the playboy persona of Bruce Wayne that he uses, to great effect, later on in his life, are the kinds of things that we wanted to have Bruce Wayne learn from this doppelganger.I can imagine that anyone from the Court of Owls to villains would want to get their hands on him because, if you can pretend to be Bruce Wayne, you can control Wayne Enterprises and you can influence a lot of important people around the city. That could be pretty lucrative and powerful, if you want it to be."
Next: Gotham: Valerie Vale & Jim Gordon?
So it seems that the Bruce Wayne doppelganger isn’t necessarily evil, but definitely might be used for nefarious means in the wrong hands. Obviously this could be used for super fun scenes in Gotham, but Gotham also generally isn’t that kind of show. I think a lot depends obviously on the long-term plans for this character. Will he only be around a few episodes? One season? Or will he continue to be a consistent character that at least appears occasionally throughout the run of the show? I mean it would be really lame if he basically has no real lasting impact and is never mentioned again in season 4. We’ll see how this all plays out starting with Gotham returning for its third season on Fox September 19th!
