Justice League Dark: Doug Liman Directing
Doug Liman attached to direct the long in-development Justice League Dark movie for the big screen
UPDATE: The live-action Justice League Dark movie is titled “Dark Universe”.
Well this will be confusing for just a little bit. We are now getting two Justice League Dark Movies. One is an animated direct-to-video feature coming later this year. The other is a movie for the big screen. One that Guillermo Del Toro has been attached to for years. I honestly thought that the animated film was basically all that survived out of that deal. After all, Justice League Dark features a slate of not hugely popular characters like Deadman & Swamp Thing. Sure, they have great stories, but just not the biggest followings.
Again the live-action movie had been stuck in development hell. But seems to finally be getting some traction with Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Edge Of Tomorrow) being signed on as director. Del Toro is still on board with the movie as Executive Producer.
There aren’t really any other details on the film at this time. Odds are the line-up will mostly mirror the comics. Will any more well-known characters like Batman make an appearance? He has a long history with several members, especially Zatanna. And he will be in the animated version coming out later this year. Oddly enough Enchantress probably would’ve made a perfect villain for such a team as opposed to the Suicide Squad.
Next: First Look At Justice League Dark
Much like Suicide Squad & The upcoming Justice League, Justice League dark will be an introducing a whole bunch of characters that Warner Bros. and DC hope to spin-off into their own films. After all you have characters like Constantine and Zatanna and others. This could even be seen as DC really delving into their mystical element much like Marvel is doing with Doctor Strange. Suicide Squad touched on magic but didn’t really explore it.
Obviously this is an extremely early announcement, but I’m potentially very excited for Justice League Dark. We’ll of course update you as casting and plot news pops up, but that could be taking place over the next year or two unless this is just being rushed out the door, which I hope not.
