We Need A Teen Titans Movie In The DCEU

All the pieces are there. Now we just need a Teen Titans movie in the DCEU.

The original Teen Titans animated TV show was one of the more successful and beloved animated DC shows in the last two decades. The show produced five seasons and spanned from 2003-07 on Cartoon Network. It also boasts a perfect 100 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes as well as overwhelmingly positive reviews on IMDb. With that in mind, the DC Extended Universe should give us a live-action film version.

Fans of the show have been clamoring for some sort of revival of the original show for years. What we got instead was Teen Titans Go, which stripped down the original show into a zany, goofy 30-minute cartoon. The original Teen Titans had those silly moments. However, the humorous scenes were splashed with serious drama and well-developed characters. Fans fell in love with the show due to the well-crafted relationships and story arcs.

There are now pieces in place for a Teen Titans movie to fit in perfectly with the DCEU. All we need are a few more to fall in place.

Who’s Who?

Ben Affleck recently revealed Deathstroke’s major part in the upcoming Batman film. Deathstroke has long been a Teen Titans villain. His appearance on the show made him even more popular, but it goes deeper than that. Deathstroke actually debuted in a Teen Titans comic, making his first appearance in The New Teen Titans (vol. 1) #2 in 1980. He originally started out as a Titans archenemy. Soon, he was scripted into other stories.

Deathstroke isn’t the only Teen Titans character that we know is already in the DCEU. Cyborg, one of the original members of the 1980s revival comic series, has already made a cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and has appeared in the Justice League teaser trailer.

The most famous group of Teen Titans include the aforementioned Cyborg, Robin (Dick Grayson), Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy. While there’s no news or rumors about Raven, Starfire, or Beast Boy making appearances in the DCEU, Robin isn’t out of the question. The suit of an assumed murdered Robin appears in Batman v. Superman, so one Robin has already existed in the timeline somewhere. Which Robin that is, however, has yet to be revealed. But adding another Robin into the mix is certainly conceivable.

Why It Needs To Happen

Warner Bros. and DC need to do all they can at this point to win over fans and bring some positive PR to their side. While a Teen Titans film likely wouldn’t come out in the next half decade, simply building towards it or planning one would give fans a reason to be excited.

Teen Titans Go! isn’t as widely loved as the original series, but it’s still extremely popular. It’s made it through three seasons and has just been confirmed for a fourth. While the DCEU’s take on the Titans would be extremely different and likely much darker than either of the two TV shows, capitalizing on this popularity would be a very smart move.

Will we get a Teen Titans film? Only time will tell. There are pieces in place for it to happen, but it’s far from a certainty right now. One thing is for certain: Fans will flock to see the movie if it’s made.
