The Eradicator has targeted the son of Superman in the conclusion to the series’ first Rebirth story arc.

DC Comics has provided a preview to tomorrow’s Superman #6, the conclusion to the “Son of Superman” story. The titular hero has been battling The Eradicator, who has targeted Superman’s son, Jonathan, due to his mixed human/Kryptonian lineage. The finale is co-written by Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason with art by Gleason and Mick Gray. The cover is provided by Doug Mahnke with a variant one by Kenneth Rocafort.

Who is the Eradicator?

The Eradicator is a Kryptonian entity determined to maintain the Kryptonian race. It sees Jonathan’s human DNA as a threat to the bloodline and seeks to remove it, effectively making Jonathan wholly Kryptonian.

More from Comics

This DC Rebirth version of the character harkens back to its original depiction in the late ’80s and early ’90s. That version also sought to maintain the Kryptonian race and its culture. It even created the Fortress of Solitude to that effect.

In that Pre-Flashpoint DC Universe, the Eradicator eventually went on to become an ally of the Man of Steel, participating in the “Reign of Supermen” storyline and was instrumental in Kal-El’s return from the grave.

Will this current Eradicator find redemption after his assault on the would-be Superboy? What new purpose could it take up? Only time will tell.

Victory at What Cost?

Surely, Jonathan will survive this attack by the Eardicator, as he is set to co-star in the upcoming Super Sons series, but will that victory come at the cost of his humanity? As the battle against the Kryptonian purifier takes to the moon, will the Earth’s satellite become collateral damage? Take a look at the preview pages below for a glimpse into the answers!
