Faith #3 doesn’t come out until Wednesday, September 14, so beware of spoilers!
Faith has quickly become one of Valiant’s most popular characters, and for good reason. A breakout star from team book, Harbinger, her first series prompted some of Bam Smack Pow’s highest honors. Her guest appearance in Archer & Armstrong made us cry, and her new ongoing keeps on winning.

Faith represents the fan in all of us, a person who doesn’t look like an action figure, a person who wants to punch bad guys but can’t let a good Doctor Who reference get by. This week, she and her boyfriend, Archer, take a break at Faith’s local Comicon, just like the rest of us want to. And of course, they try to fight some crime. And of course, all Hell breaks loose.
Faith is your favorite Con buddy. And so is Jody Houser.
Comicons have gotten huge recently, and they’re one of the things I love most about fan culture. I’ve covered Dragon*Con, Flame Con, and the North Carolina Comicon for this site. The combination of talented amateur cosplay, industry celebrities, and inclusive crowds never fails to win me over. Faith obviously loves these, and her gentle way of teaching Archer to work the Con is also Jody Houser’s way to tell excited n00bs how to get over the planning anxiety. If Faith’s too subtle, the panels are also studded with direct tips like, “It’s great to compliment cosplayers! Unless you’re being gross or making people feel unsafe. Don’t do that.” This book welcomes the reader in a way no other series does.
If this inspires you to your own Con experience, you can follow Valiant’s tour schedule here (the next appearance is Rose City Comicon this weekend). Faith writer Jody Houser will be at North Carolina Comicon in November as part of Gerard Way’s DC family.
The Bottom Line: Comics are great, and they’re even better in groups. Follow the latest Valiant charmer and find a Con near you!
