Top 5 Takeaways From DC Comics January 2017 Solicitations
By Tim Adams
With DC Comics releasing their solicitations for January 2017, we take a look at what five items stood out among the crop of comics.
January 2017 sees the beginning of a new year, along with DC Comics first “Rebirth” crossover in Justice League vs. Suicide Squad. While it’s fallout will see the launch of Justice League of America, there are other interesting nuggets of information to be gleaned from the entire listing of January 2017 comics.

Sheriff of Babylon Creative Team Reunites on Batman #15
Writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads completed the first season of their Vertigo comic Sheriff of Babylon, and it looks like the duo will keep the creative juices flowing as Gerads joins King on Batman #15.
The solicitation reads:
"“STREETS AND SWAMPS”! Swamp Thing comes to Gotham City with a mysterious request for Batman—but these longtime allies will have to make up for lost time and work together in order to confront a growing threat that only they can stop!"
Superman #14-15 Takes the Man of Steel and New Super-Man across the Multiverse

Readers haven’t seen the last of Grant Morrison’s Multiversity, as Supermen from across the Multiverse are being collected for unknown reasons in Superman #14–15. What makes this interesting is the current Superman in “Rebirth” is also from an alternate world. This makes the threat stand out on a more personal level.
The solicitation for Superman #14 reads:
"“MULTIPLICITY” part one! The New Super-Man of China has been taken! The Red Son Superman of Earth-30 has been beaten! And who knows what’s happened to Sunshine Superman! Someone is collecting Supermen across the Multiverse—this looks like a job for our Kal-El as he is joined by Justice Incarnate in this multi-Earth epic!"
A Whopping 4 Parts to Justice League vs. Suicide Squad in January

It may be an oversight on my part, but I didn’t realize so many issues of Justice League vs. Suicide Squad would be published in January. DC is making sure this event doesn’t linger on like Civil War II currently is over at Marvel. We should take a bet on which event ends first—Justice League vs. Suicide Squad or Civil War II?
Superman and Wally West Meet in Titans #7
More “Rebirth” ramifications play out in Titans #7 as Superman and Wally West cross paths. Both heroes hail from the same pre-New 52 world, which makes their face-to-face worth monitoring to see if any clues are revealed regarding “Rebirth.”
The solicitation reads:
"“Home Sweet Home”! A new threat brings Wally West face to face with the Man of Steel, and the two recognize each other as kindred souls from another world. Plus, the Titans set up their new Tower in New York City!"
Nick Bradshaw Variant Cover for Titans #7
Nick Bradshaw is among the 2014 class of Marvel’s “All-New Young Guns,”—a collection of superstar artists signed to exclusive contracts. Bradshaw has put out the least amount of monthly work among the 2014 class.
This is why it caught my attention to see Bradshaw listed as providing a variant cover to Titans #7. Does this signify Bradshaw is no longer under an exclusive contract with Marvel and is a free agent?
