BvS, Suicide Squad Nominated For People’s Choice Awards
Batman v Superman & Suicide Squad are both nominees for the People’s Choice Awards!
The people have spoken! The nominees for the 2017 People’s Choice Awards were announced earlier today, and superheroes in general are a big part this year.
In fact, Marvel and DC are going head to head in a couple of the categories. First, there’s the category of “Favorite Movie Actor”, which to my knowledge isn’t specifically based on a single performance, but several of the nominees were in big superhero movies this year. Ryan Reynolds was in Deadpool, Robert Downey Jr. was in Captain America: Civil War (and has basically just been Iron Man for the last decade) and Will Smith played Deadshot in Suicide Squad. Smith is also up for “Favorite Action Movie Actor”. Ben Affleck has been nominated for “Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor”. So was he in a different movie than everyone else in Batman v Superman (that would make a whole lot of sense)?
Margot Robbie, who has a breakout role as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad this year, is nominated in the “Favorite Action Movie Actress”, going up against Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Shailene Woodley & Zoe Saldana.
Then there is the “Favorite Action Movie” Category. It’s pretty much every superhero film that has come out in 2016 with the exception of Doctor Strange (which released too late to be nominated). So you not only have Marvel vs. DC in this category, but Marvel vs. Marvel (well Fox really since it’s Deadpool) and DC vs. DC since Suicide Squad & Batman v Superman are both nominated in this category.
Finally there is the overall “Favorite Movie”. Batman v Superman is not nominated in this category, but Suicide Squad is. Is that kind of awkward considering how much more prestige was put upon Batman v Superman? Probably….

It’s a little disappointing Gotham was completely shut out this year, but otherwise it looks like a pretty solid crop of nominees. I feel like the only win DC might get is Margot Robbie for favorite action movie actress. You can cast your vote for your pick for The People’s Choice Awards now, and the awards air January 18th from the Microsoft Theatre on CBS!
