How Ben McKenzie Is Spending Thanksgiving

Gotham star Ben McKenzie is used to non-traditional holiday celebrations on Thanksgiving

So how are the stars of Gotham spending Thanksgiving this year? Well we know the plans for at least two of the stars of the show. Former on-screen lovers and off-screen husband and wife Ben McKenzie & Morena Baccarin, who play Detective James Gordon & Doctor Leslie Thompkins on the hit Fox show, will be celebrating turkey day together with their 8-month infant, Frances Laiz. But they aren’t going to be celebrating with a giant cooked turkey and all the fixings and side dishes you’d usually associate with Thanksgiving, according to McKenzie:

"We’re doing Middle Eastern food. My sister-in-law is Armenian, so we’re rocking that this year. We’re not going to cook, we’re just going to order. Too lazy!"

Ben McKenzie is pretty used to not celebrating this holiday in the more traditional fashion:

"I spent Thanksgiving (in New York) a couple of years ago … eating Chinese food. I really like holidays in New York, it feels appropriately… wintery."

So, I want to stress that I love good Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. I wouldn’t even mind doing something like that for the holidays, it sounds fun and different. But when Ben McKenzie says he’s doing something very non-traditional for Thanksgiving foodwise, one scene from one of my favorite holiday movies, The Ref, comes to mind:

McKenzie noted that he grew up watching the Adam West version of Batman and thinks “everyone’s a Batman fan on some level.”

I’m sure whatever Ben Mckenzie and Morena Baccarin have planned this year, it’ll be more enjoyable than what their TV show counterparts go through. I mean, even holidays in Gotham are bound to be pretty dreary. Be sure to catch an all-new episode of Gotham tonight on Fox and happy Thanksgiving from us at Caped Crusades!
